10 – Scripting

The preliminary exercise is to create a film clip that demonstrates match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. Now that I have researched these techniques myself in a group with 2 other people we must find a way to put them into the clip.

To do this we have written the following script:

Tom fast walks into the room, gently pushes the door open and carefully closes it behind him. He darts his eyes around the room looking frightened.

Classroom Interior

Tom

What are you sitting here for? They’re coming!

Ben

Just having a cuppa Tea

Tom

sits down on a nearby chair

Haven’t you seen what’s going on?!!

Ben

No, I’ve been in here all lunch

Tom

You idiot. People are dieing outside!

Ben

I had no idea, why hadn’t anyone told me about this?!

Tom

Slams table

It’s ARMAGEDDON!

We have made sure that in this scene there is opportunity to use the techniques. This include the character opening a door which allows us to try match on action. Also there is a conversation between characters that allows us to demonstrate the shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. We are now starting to produce a storyboard to help plan the rest of the clip in more detail.
